Announcing "Flying High": An Interactive Listening Party Celebrating 10 Years of "Rodeo" by Travis Scott
It's lit!
When we threw Stick Talk, our celebration of Future’s DS2 back in August, there were so many directions we could have gone next in terms of other hip-hop albums to highlight. 2015 was stacked. What A Time To Be Alive, Trapsoul, GO:OD AM, LUV is Rage, Slime Season II…these are just a few from the last quarter of that year. But one stood head and shoulders above the rest for me: Travis Scott’s Rodeo.
It’s hard to imagine a time that Travis Scott wasn’t a juggernaut in every sense of the word; a living, breathing IPO. We know him as a musician, our parents maybe know him as Kylie Jenner’s baby dad, and my nephew knows him as “Fortnite man.” People are requesting “FE!N” at Beabadoobee concerts. Don’t know who that is? Exactly.
While he’s today reached unfathomable heights of celebrity, fame and riches, Rodeo features Scott pre-apotheosis, as an alien from a planet “nine light years away, just outside of the Kepler Solar System” who’s crash-landed on Earth, armed with nothing but a burning desire to “rebel against the system” and bend this world to his will. Travis Scott has little left to conquer in 2025, and it shows in the recent music. But one only need revisit Rodeo to remember the hunger he once possessed, and the wizardry it brought out of him at the time.
So, we’re back! Excited to announce that on December 14th, we’ll be throwing Flying High, an interactive listening party celebrating Travis Scott’s debut album Rodeo. Like last time, we’ll be listening to the album in full, but I’ll be inviting audience members to come onstage to share their thoughts / stories / memories associated with the songs throughout the experience.
If you love Travis Scott and Rodeo, come through and chat about it with other people. Never heard it? Come find out why people love it—and La Flame—so much. The hope is by the end of the night, you will not only have revisited a classic album, but you'll walk away with a new perspective. This is our last event of the year, so don’t miss it!
Join us at telos.haus on Sunday, December 14th at 4PM. Unfortunately, we will not be playing FEIN—sorry wrong album—but it will be fun, I promise you. Tickets are $5 and come with food and drink, as well as an entry to win a copy of Rodeo on vinyl! RSVP here!
See you soon.
I’m Ebrima, and this has been Edited for Brevity.
